The Ultimate Bill Watterson and ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ Prize Pack Giveaway

Comic Books Featured Geek Culture

CHGieawayHow would you like to win the Ultimate Bill Watterson Prize Pack? No, it’s not stickers that you’d put on a truck or knockoff merchandise, it’s an incredible collection of books that Watterson has had a hand in, one way or another. One lucky GeekDad reader will be neck deep in comics soon. Here’s what’s all involved:

To begin with, there’s The Complete Calvin and Hobbes, a mammoth four-volume set, packed with 1,456 pages of the entire collection of one of the most popular comic strips of all time. The paperback books are printed in four-color and tucked inside a quality slipcase, this book contains every Calvin and Hobbes that ever appeared in syndication. It’s huge!

Next up are the two latest collections from Stephan Pastis’ Pearls Before Swine. Watterson made a secret guest appearance in the strip last year and brought even more attention to this New York Times best-selling cartoonist. Pearls Freaks the #*%# Out and Pearls Falls Fast contain more than 500 pages of one of the funniest, most biting comics out there today. (Some comics may be inappropriate for kids.)

The prize pack also includes The Complete Cul de Sac. Watterson wrote the foreword to cartoonist Richard Thompson’s very first book, saying “Cul de Sac has it all–intelligence, gentle humor, a delightful way with words, and, most surprising of all, wonderful, wonderful drawings”. What’s more, Watterson donated art to help raise money for Thompson when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. This collection has every Cul De Sac cartoon published between the strip’s beginning and Thompson’s retirement in 2012. It’s two paperback volumes and 650 pages of delightful fun with the Otterloop family.

Any “Ultimate” prize wouldn’t be complete without the latest book to feature Calvin and Hobbes. The March 2015 release of Exploring Calvin and Hobbes is a companion to an exhibition at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and features an extensive new interview between the show’s curator and Bill Watterson. To learn more, read our review.

And we’re only just getting started!

The lucky winner is also going to receive a full-color art print of the very last Calvin and Hobbes strip. This unframed print is printed on Giclee printers with archival pigment inks on archival paper. It’s fully licensed and, hung from your wall, it will be a wonderful reminder to go exploring every day.

Finally, the prize pack includes a one-year Pro subscription to GoComics, the premier comic portal on the Web. GoComics features dozens and dozens of the most popular (and hilarious) comic strips and cartoons from Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonists and critically-acclaimed artists. You can also access the entire Calvin and Hobbes archive at GoComics, along with many other iconic comic strips. A Pro subscription gives you lots of benefits and even more laughs.

But there’s more! (Of course!) We’ll also pick five runners-up who will receive a copy of the brand new Exploring Calvin and Hobbes and a one-year Pro subscription to GoComics. All this is made possible by our friends at Andrews McMeel and Universal UClick. Please take a moment to check out the other great books, calendars, and puzzles they offer.

If you want to enter, all you have to do is fill out this form and keep your fingers crossed. Good luck! Winners will be chosen on Wednesday, March 4.

  1. I am very sad because of the words “Contest only available to residents of the United States.”

  2. Entered. .and tho the new Calvin stuff was an incentive. . what really caught my eye was the Cul De Sac book (which I didn’t know was out!).

    after March 4th, if I don’t win :(. . I’ll be making a stop on Amazon!

  3. This would be amazing. My fiance grew up having Calvin and Hobbes read to him and it helped him through some pretty rough times. I would be great to be able to share this with our sons. Thanks for the opportunity to enter this giveaway.

  4. It would mean so much to me to win this. Calvin and Hobbes have enriched my own journey with humor, insight, and amazing reflections on the peculiarities of life.

  5. I remember reading these comics as a kid and getting so many laughs out of the funny things and situations Calvin and Hobbes would get into or say. I’ve been wanting to get the entire series of Calvin and Hobbes ever since I started reading it. I couldn’t get enough of it. I would read it in the Sunday paper when we got that, since that was the only paper we had delivered. Man! I just feel like I eat, sleep, and drink Calvin and Hobbes! I thought about getting the Complete Calvin and Hobbes, but can’t afford it since I am unemployed and go to college full-time, so hopefully (fingers crossed) I can win it instead. It would be the most cherished possession I have were I to win it. Thank you for giving us all a chance to win! Good luck everyone!

  6. What a great give-away! I’ve loved Calvin and Hobbes and have passed that love to my daughter. It’s our favorite. And then to have Pearls and Cul de Sac on top of that? It is beyond spectacular! Hope I’m the winner!marykayeharlan@gmail.com

  9. What an awesome give away collection. Calvin & Hobbes has been one of the biggest influences in my career along with Krazy Kat and Walt Kelly’s Pogo. Thanks for the opportunity to win this incredible collection.

  10. Of course I want to be the winner – Calvin and Hobbes were the BEST! Plus, it should be noted that Pearls before Swine is absolutely hysterical (as was Cul De Sac). Just reread the first Pearls book and was in tears from laughing so much – my stomach actually ached the next day!

  11. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! only for people in the USA – sometimes life is just not fair. What about the special relationship between the USA and the UK (and I don’t mean the Bill Clinton kind of special relations!). I assume there will be an equivalent competition for the UK – please, please pretty please…..

  12. we all love Calvin & Hobbes…From my 27 year old to my 9 year old, the books we have have been loved to pieces, colored and snuck under covers for years. Watterson is fantastic.

  13. Wow! What a kid and his stuff Tiger. I laugh every time. Thank you Bill Watterson
