Amazon Presents the Top 10 Misquoted Holiday Lyrics

x-ray lyrics

One of the many interesting features on Amazon’s new Kindle Fire line is X-Ray for Music. Just as X-Ray for Movies & TV Shows lets you access actor bios, background info and more from IMDB directly onscreen as you view Amazon Instant Video content, X-Ray for Music lets you watch lyrics display and scroll automatically, line-by-line as songs from your Amazon Music library play.

I’ll not lie; this has settled more than a couple of arguments among my friends and family. (I stand corrected, Josh — Mastodon’s “Curl of the Burl” does not begin with the line “I killed the man ’cause he killed my goat.”)

As we head into the holiday season, Amazon hopes to help you avoid similar musical mishaps by providing the following list of the 10 most frequently misquoted yuletide lyrics.

Top 10 Most Misquoted Holiday Lyrics

  1. Auld Lang Syne: “Should all acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mine, should all acquaintance be forgot in the land of old man time.” – 29.18%
  2. The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire): “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your toes” – 22.18%
  3. Winter Wonderland: “Later on, we’ll perspire” – 17.90%
  4. Deck the Halls: “Don we now our day of peril” – 8.56%
  5. Jingle Bells: “Bells on cocktail rings” – 8.56%
  6. The Twelve Days of Christmas: “On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me, four colly birds” – 7.00%
  7. Silent Night: “Round John Virgin, mother and child” – 3.11%
  8. Joy to the World: “Joy to the world! The Lord has gum” – 1.95%
  9. Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer: “Grandma got run over by a reindeer walkin’ home from outhouse on Christmas Eve” – 1.17%
  10. We Three Kings of Orient Are: “We three kings of porridge and tar” – 0.39%

Really, people? “Bells on cocktails?!”

Still, it’s a humorous enough way to promote an underused aspect of the Kindle Fire, and the perfect time to remind holiday shoppers that special deals on Amazon’s Fire tablets (and their popular e-readers) are available throughout this Black Friday weekend. Right now you can save $30 off the price of a new Fire HD 7 or Kindle Touch and $20 off the Fire HD 6 or Kindle Paperwhite (my personal favorite.)

Any of these would make a fine gift for that special someone… Or a great treat for yourself.
