Dadvertising Spotlight: Cheerios’ #HowtoDad Commercial

Videos

Here at GeekDad we love pointing out examples of good dadvertising, and here’s another one. Less sentimental than the Extra Gum ad and with an attitude more reminiscent of Toyota’s “Swagger Wagon,” this recent ad from Cheerios puts dads front and center:

Sure, not all of us are that dad. My oldest daughter is only 10 and she wavers between thinking I’m the coolest guy in the world and completely clueless. But I love that this commercial is about setting the bar high—here’s how dads can be awesome—rather than giving us yet another example of how little dads can do on their own.

Sadly, with peanut allergies at my house, we probably won’t be having Peanut Butter Cheerios anytime soon.

  1. I don’t like peanut butter, but there has always been a box of Cheerios in my cupboard and there will be many years to come. Great nod to dads.

  2. It’s nice to see a commercial where the dad is actually involved, and not being stupid or letting mom do everything. Thanks for sharing!

  3. WOW. I am speechless. Not only does the dad come across as caring, clued-in, and funny, they didn’t make the mom mean or nagging just to get us to like him more. EPIC WIN, CHEERIOS! I may actually buy these crazy peanut butter Cheerios based on this commercial alone. No joke. Put THAT in your market research, General Mills!
