Yesterday Amazon Studios announced a new first; throughout the spring and summer a trio of exclusive children’s entertainment series will debut on the Prime Instant Video service.

Beginning May 23rd, Tumble Leaf, a show aimed at pre-schoolers from director Drew Hodges and Bix Pix Entertainment, promises to delight children with the adventures of Fig the Fox and his best friend Stick. Designed to promote exploration and scientific thinking, it certainly seems to be in a solid GeekParent vein.

A second pre-school series, Creative Galaxy, will follow on June 27th. From the minds of creator Angela Santomero and Out of the Blue (Super Why!, Blue’s Clues, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood) and featuring the vocal talents of Samantha Bee, Cloris Leachman and Jason Priestley, the show revolves around characters Arty and Epiphany who traverse the galaxy solving problems with art. With its focus on music, dancing and crafts, Creative Galaxy also connects each episode with a real-life project you can create with your kids.

Lastly, for early school-agers, Annedroids kicks off on July 25th. This live-action adventure from JJ Johnson (Dino Dan) and Sinking Ship Entertainment features a brilliant young female protagonist, her human friends and a cast of android assistants. With stories centered on both the trials of growing up and the wonders of scientific discovery, it’s another selection that should pique your family’s geeky interests.

With all this content being developed alongside Educational Psychologist Dr. Alice Wilder, the Educational Advisor for Amazon Studios’ kids programming, Amazon seems keen to combine the flexibility of streaming media with the profound engagement of quality edutainment. The added perk, of course, being that all three series are bundled with the many other features already provided from your annual Amazon Prime membership.

Hopefully you and yours will find one (or more) of these new properties to your liking, and GeekDad will keep an ear to the ground for future developments regarding these and any other new forays into children’s entertainment.
