Continuing their refresh of the Best Trips series of travel books, Lonely Planet now has versions out for Florida & the South, New York & the Mid-Atlantic, and Southwest USA. Like the other new versions before them, these three capture the best of the best for road trips through different parts of the United States.

Using these books to plan a trip is like having your own personal travel agent. Lonely Planet has put together complete road trips, ranging from two days to two weeks long. All you need to do is follow along. The books also try to include a variety of kinds of trips, so they can help you relax, hang out at the beach, visit museums, have good eats, explore, hike, or bring the whole family with you.

Filled with colorful pages, drool-worthy photos, and detailed ideas, these books may be all you need on your next road trip. If you know you want to see a certain area of the country but don’t want to do all the research yourself, follow any of the road trips in these books and you’ll really get to tour a region and all its highlights.

I can also personally vouch for many of the trips in these books, having lived in Northern Virginia, Georgia, and Arizona. But Trip 5 in the Arizona section of the Southwest USA book is especially fun for me to see. It takes travelers from Wickenburg, Arizona, north to my town of Prescott, through the mining town of Jerome, through Sedona, up to Flagstaff, and ending at the Grand Canyon. That trip takes you through gorgeous hills, valleys, canyons, forests, and amazing rock colors and formations, and ending at the Grand Canyon is a fantastic finale to any journey.

If you love your road trips, but aren’t sure what to see along the way, Lonely Planet’s Best Trips series is an effective tool.

The Best Trips books retail for about $24.99 each, but are cheaper at Amazon. These latest three will be published March 1, 2014, but can be pre-ordered now.

Note: I received books for the purposes of this review.
