Listen Here: Super Mario Theme Song on an Ancient Chinese Wind Instrument

Music Videogames

The Sheng is a type of Chinese musical instrument that has been around for thousands of years. Each pipe-and-reed combo creates a different tone, and the player can create polyphonic music by covering holes in the pipes and inhaling or exhaling.

At this master class in Taipei, the musician plays a rendition of the Super Mario Bros. theme song that sounds so dead-on, that you can close your eyes and imagine playing the game!
