Why does anybody in Hollywood, or anywhere else for that matter, still think this is a good idea?

According to [T]he Hollywood Reporter, the third Ghostbusters film was supposed to feature a “baton-passing” scene between original three castmembers (Ramis, Aykroyd and Bill Murray) and a trio of newbies. One unnamed insider speculates the project will face “some repercussions” following Ramis’ death, but the film (written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, veterans of The Office) is expected to continue with some subtle story tweaks. Director Ivan Reitman, who helmed the first two Ghostbuster[s] films, is expected to meet with Sony producers to plan their next steps.
I still can’t figure out how anyone who’s seen Ghostbusters II—which was written and directed by the same team as the original, yet failed in nearly every way to live up to its promise—would think a third movie made over 25 years later would actually work out well. Maybe we should blame J.J. Abrams for giving them the notion by rebooting Star Trek in a financially successful (if questionably Trek-y) way.

Well… they were able to reboot The Three Stooges after many years. Of course that’s pretty much an insurmountable argument against BG3 than for it.
I guess I’m in the minority here. I loved GB1, and GB2, and I get excited every time rumors about GB3 surface. I think it’s probably because of my age. I was 5 when GB1 came out, and I was 10 when GB2 came out.
If the original cast was only intended to be for a cameo to introduce the new group, then I say go ahead! I loved the first one, and the second was passable. The third could still be a very fun movie!
On the other hand, had it extensively involved the originals, then yes that would have been a bigger issue.
Anyone else notice that the ghost has two left hands?
And yes, GB3 will likely suck, but an appearance from Egon probably wouldn’t have made it any less sucky.
