Even for those of us that are crazy enough to have paid to run to exhaustion through a Disney park before, the latest addition to the RunDisney lineup is exciting! The Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend is more than just an excuse to get the family off the couch, it is a great crossover event between the Disney and Marvel universes. If you’ve never run a Disney race before, now is the time!

The super hero-themed weekend includes several races including the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon, the Super Heroes 5k, and age-separated kids’ races spread out over November 14-16, 2014, at Disneyland in California. Everyone that attempts a run (no, finishing isn’t required!) receives a shirt and “finisher” medal. Expect a course filled with themed character photo opportunities and fun music. Although costumes are never required for participation, cosplay certainly makes the races more fun!

Last year my family participated in the Tower of Terror 10-Miler weekend and had a great time! I made it seven miles out of 10, and my 4-year-old daughter managed to drag herself over the finish line on her kids race. We’re already training for the 2014 run!

A hidden bonus of participating in the races (even just a kid’s race!) is discounted pricing on park tickets and hotels. This discount made our trip much more affordable. Tickets can be purchased through the website. (I encourage you to call to get the hotel discounts instead of trying to do it online.)

Check out the video below, and then start sketching out your running-friendly costume plans. Be sure to mark your calendar for noon (Eastern Time) on March 25, 2014, when registration opens for the event. Sign up early! This one will likely sell out at super speed.
