Dark Talisman is a very good introduction to fantasy for the younger reader. It isn’t weighed down with some of the qualities that can turn people off from what is described as “epic fantasy,” yet it contains all of the fantastical creatures and elements that draw people to this genre.

In my personal opinion, YA means, “young adults and up.”
First, thanks to everyone that entered the raffle for Dark Talisman!
There is nothing in the book that would be highly inappropriate for a five year old, but there are some fairly adult themes (thievery, death, violence) that would make it more appropriate for the teen audience. Thus, it is labeled as a Young Adult Fantasy.
