Michael Hearst’s Songs for Unusual Creatures is now a series on PBS Digital Studios. The first episode, about the Jesus Christ Lizard, was just posted on Thursday last week. There are 10 episodes in all and they’ll be posted every other week.
I saw Hearst perform at Wordstock last month and really loved it, so I ended up buying both the book and CD. My family has been enjoying both, and this series will help us learn just a little bit more about all of these bizarre animals—and some other things. For instance, in this first episode, I learned a little about Margaret Leng Tan, a professional toy pianist, who got started with that instrument because of John Cage.
