Made me look at the definition.
Definitely Frank and Fruther, looking for the following: Malicious, evil, Mischievous, teasing, or annoying.
Darkness is merely Evil and relatively innocent by comparison (as is the movie).
Just imagine them both in a room, and wich would recoil or give chase first.
