Wordstock Festival Next Weekend

Books Comic Books Education Events Places

Wordstock FestivalIt’s nearly time for one of my favorite Portland events: Wordstock.

Wordstock started in 1997 with the goal of helping teachers improve their writing education, so that kids would have the skills needed to express themselves no matter what field they pursued. In 2005, Wordstock began having an annual literary festival, bringing in authors, publishers, booksellers—and fans.

There are so many things going on next week as early as Tuesday (including the Friday night IPRC Text Ball, for which you’re encouraged to come dressed as your favorite literary device). The main event, of course, is the book fair on Saturday and Sunday (October 5 & 6). There are author readings, workshops, panels, activities for kids, and tons of exhibitors. If you love books, this is better than Disneyland.

Tickets are just $9 in advance ($11 at the door), but kids 13 and under are FREE. There’s a section of the fair called “Little Word” that’s just for kids. For more info and to buy tickets, visit wordstockfestival.com.
