If you’ve ever seen Powerpuff Girls or Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, you’ve already been introduced to the weird cartoon genius of Craig McCracken; and if you haven’t, then you’ve missed something. Either way, you’re in for a treat tonight as McCracken’s new series Wander Over Yonder has its premiere on Disney Channel.

Wander Over Yonder, which airs tonight with two back-to-back episodes from 9:00 – 9:30pm ET/PT, features the free-spirited galactic traveler Wander — voiced by Jack McBrayer of 30 Rock, Wreck-It Ralph, and Phineas and Ferb — and his trusty blue steed Sylvia — voiced by April Winchell of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Together they travel from planet to planet helping people (and other creatures) out, while fighting the evil forces of Lord Hater (veteran voice actor Keith Ferguson) and Commander Peepers (Tom Kenny, best known as the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants). The somewhat-surreal animation style will be familiar to fans of McCracken’s earlier works, and provides a nice contrast to most other animated shows currently on TV.

Tonight’s first episode is titled “The Greatest,” and is described thusly in the official press release:

Lord Hater sets out to control and win everything in the universe, including conquering The Binglebops and their planet, but his plans are soon diverted when he finds himself accepting Wander’s series of challenges to prove once and for all that he truly is the greatest in the entire galaxy.

The second episode, titled “The Egg,” is described thusly:

Wander and Sylvia try to soften the heart of a ferocious flying dragon by reuniting it with its lost egg, but it’s Sylvia who ends up needing a lesson or two on being gentle and nurturing.

(Incidentally, I’ve seen both episodes, and “The Egg” isn’t as touchy-feely as the description might make it sound.) You can see an exclusive clip from “The Egg” below.

Don’t forget to watch and/or set your DVR: Wander Over Yonder premieres tonight on Disney Channel at 9:00pm ET/PT. Make sure to keep it tuned to Disney Channel after the premiere at 9:30 for a new Phineas and Ferb featuring the voices of Gordon Ramsay and Goldie Hawn.
