That’s So Crazy, It Just Might Work

The world (particularly the world of the Internet) is filled with crazy ideas that turn out to be amazing and brilliant—but a lot of the time once something is successful, we forget how crazy it was at first. Ridiculo.us, the folks that brought us a bunch of silly Kickstarter projects like the Run Free Race, a cure for infant beardlessness, and the My Name Is Not Cody awareness campaign, have something that seems, well, actually pretty reasonable for once.

That’s So Crazy It Just Might Work is the title of their proposed webshow, in which they’ll interview a bunch of people who had crazy ideas and made them work. Why? Well, as Kyle Scheele puts it, sometimes when we tell stories of success, we skip over all the bumps in the road. It gives the impression that what happened was inevitable, or at least reasonable, and that can be an obstacle to pursuing your own crazy idea. This webshow aims to show that often success doesn’t start with a sure thing.

Ridiculo.us already has a line-up of guests for the first ten episodes, and it looks great. I’d love to see the stories these folks have to tell. Ten bucks gets you access to all ten episodes before the release, or there are various other options for DVDs, uncut interviews, and even associate producer credits. (Presumably the show, if it gets made, will be eventually released online for free, but if the Kickstarter doesn’t fund then that won’t happen.)

Take a look at the Kickstarter page for more: the pitch video is worth a watch. Is it crazy? I dunno, but I hope it works.
