Happy Birthday, Adam Savage!

Birthdays & Anniversaries People Television

AdamSavageJul2011_croppedOn July 15, 1967, Adam Whitney Savage was born in New York City. He started life in the entertainment world early, providing voices for short animated films his father Lee Savage made for Sesame Street. He moved on to acting, playing a stock boy in one of the “Mr. Whipple” Charmin commercials and a drowning teenager in the video for Billy Joel’s song “Second Wind.”

It was at about age nineteen, he’s said, that he decided to take his career in a very different direction, doing graphic design, animation, and special effects work. His special effects model work became the focus of his career until, resulting from work he’d done with a certain James Franklin Hyneman, he started work in 2002 on a new Discovery Channel show (which started airing in early 2003) called MythBusters. Seeing as how the show is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, it’s not unreasonable to call it one of the most successful nonfiction TV shows ever.

Savage is a self-professed geek, and has a collection of lightsabers in case anyone were to doubt him. He also does a pretty credible (and very funny) impression of Gollum singing well-known songs. He’s the proud dad of twin sons, and therefore a geek dad.

Please join all of us at GeekDad in wishing Adam Savage a very happy 46th birthday, and many more to come!
