Who would I like to see play the twelfth Doctor? My official-official opinion is I don’t have an opinion. They did a phenomenal job when they cast Matt Smith, and I expect they’ll do that again. That said, my slightly less official opinion is that it should be some one other than a white male, or at the very least a ginger. I’ve mostly stayed unswayed by reports of shortlisted actors, except when I saw some rumoured report that Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley) was shortlisted. I was somehow quite excited by that prospect, and I’m not sure why, but it might be simply because he’d be another Weasley on Doctor Who, and far more likely to actually get the part than too-famous Rupert Grint. But mostly, I hope there’s some great actor who blows them away in the audition, and goes on to really blow us all away as the Doctor.
My favorite Doctor is Tom Baker in classic and David Tennant in the newer series.
As for the 12th, I’d like to see someone a bit older than Matt Smith. I’m thinking mid-30s to early 40s.
My daughter is the Whovian so I am posting on her behalf. She started really getting into the series with Matt Smith playing the doctor so he is her favorite. We were watching one of the Harry Potter movies and thought either of the actors playing Fred or George Wesley would make good doctors.

As far as who I would like to see as the 12th Doctor, I read somewhere that Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley) was in the running and I like that casting but I also agree with Lisa, James or Oliver Phelps (Fred/George) would bring brilliant whimsy and energy to the character.
I don’t have a favorite doctor. My daughter’s favorite doctor is David Tennant.
(She’s 16 and keeps me up to date on all things Dr. Who. Even had a Tardis birthday cake.)
We’ve discussed the improbability of a female 12th Doctor – I suppose I’d like to see that.
In general I would like to see the twelfth doctor be someone with no to little acting experience. Need crazy eyes and wild hair. But if I had to pick a person, Robin Williams is the only one that comes to mind. Casting Robin as the doctor for a short duration would be a total trip! Yes, I know, American – but he can carry the accent and does have a serious side when needed.
Favorite – Toss up between Matt Smith and David Tennant.
I’d like to see Bill Nighy play the Doctor, even though the Doctor tends to regenerate younger these days. I like the idea of a world-weary Doctor with a dry humour.
I think Matt Smith is my favourite. He kind of reminded me of a young Michael Palin.

Fourth Doctor, without question. No one beats Tom Baker’s simultaneous zaniness and condescension.
I’d like to see someone older play the Doctor, like the old days.
Favorite doctor is David Tennant but also love Matt Smith and yes, Chris Eccleston. As for who should play the 12th, I would like it to be someone new and unknown to a wider audience, like Smith was when he entered the role.
I started watching the show with Matt Smith and it is a toss up between him and David Tennant. I wasn’t really sure who I would like to see as the 12th doctor, but a few of the suggestions above really caught my eye. The actor that played Bill Weasley would be an amazing choice and the doctor would finally have his wish of becoming a ginger fulfilled! 🙂
Going back through and watching some classic episodes, I find myself enjoying the Pertwee era quite a bit. He’s a confident, take-charge kind of Doctor, yet remains strange and fun. I don’t have a good opinion of who should be next, but I’d love to see the producers think outside the box. They should break the mold in some way – either go older again, go with a different ethnicity, or switch the Doctor’s gender. If nothing else, they should at least let the Doctor be a ginger for once!
David Tenant was my fav! I’d like to see any Weasley accept Ginny in the roll. Even Percy.
I grew up watching Tom Baker. He is definitely my favourite…but David Tennant is a close 2nd.

My favorite Doctor is David Tennant; I hate following the crowd on this because he’s the fave of the majority of Who watchers but seriously, TENNANT. (There are numbers and stuff that back up this claim but BORING.) (Wrong show, sorry.)
I also quite like Peter Davison, and have since well before he and Tennant made themselves their own father-in-law and other timey-wimey and somewhat disturbing things. I hope they get on as well in life as they do in my head.
I’m perfectly happy to wait to see who they pick for 12 because being surprised is a part of the fun, especially if “surprised” means “I have no idea who they might choose so I’m letting others try to figure out.”
I started my Whovian journey recently – but am all caught up on the reboot. Eccleston is MY Doctor (though I’ve enjoyed Tennant and Smith).
I’d like to see an unknown get the part. I don’t want ANY baggage as I get to know the next Doctor.
I actually pick Christopher Eccleston — number 9. I think he had a really interesting mix of darkness and seriousness and light-heartedness. Somehow you really _felt_ it when he got enthusiastic about things. As for the next doctor, I’m totally down with the draft-Emma-Thompson movement! I would really love to see what a woman could do with the role. And a serious woman with some gray hairs and life experience, not some kind of Tardis “booth babe!”
Matt Smith is the doctor that got me hooked. I know a bit late to the game. but better late than never, right?

My favorite incarnation of the Doctor is #2 as played by Patrick Troughton.
I want someone obscure but brilliant to play the 12th Doctor, preferably someone not-white, but still male (since the idea of a gender-dimorphic race switching genders upon regeneration doesn’t work for me).
(As for a Time Lady inheriting the title of the Doctor, I’d totally be behind that. Especially if they bring back a regenerated Susan or Romana for the role.)
Whichever the current Doctor is has always been my favorite. For the next actor, I’d love it if they would go with someone unknown or little known.

I am one of the strange ones. My favorite Doctor was #5, Peter Davidson. While I grew up watching all the Classic episodes, he always stood out as one of my favorites. Tom Baker is awesome, but he reminded me too much of a father figure, which #5 did not. Then there were the companions, Adric, Nyssa, Teagan, Turlough, Kameleon (yes, I consider him a companion, if only fora short time), Peri. While more other-worldly, they were relateable at that time in my personal life.
As for #12, well, I think we’re all going to be surprised. If they go “in character” the new Doctor will be a relative unknown, younger looking (tho not necessarily in age, as we’ve seen that fluxuate a bit), but very charismatic. I would agree that he will probably be a ginger (it’s been hinted) but I would disagree on many of the Harry Potter actors, most especially Rupert Grint and either of the Phelps, mainly do to their star power. While it’s possible that it will be a woman, I highly doubt that, as we have no clear canon on changing gender during regeneration. I will prepare to hate and then grow to love #12, just has I have since I was 9 years old and watched Tom Baker change into Peter Davidson for the first time.
#10 “IS” the Dr. He’s that blissful mix of the all the anger and all the love and he shows it with every little thing that happens, which to me makes him more human than Time Lord and I can relate. #9 is “MY” Dr. because he’s the first I ever saw and the first line I heard when I walked in to watch this “sooooo cool show you’ve got to see Paul” was RUN! and that was a wrap, I was hooked. As far as the 12th Doctor…Female, color shouldn’t matter as it shouldn’t in life. Fame before or after being casted as the 12th shouldn’t matter, all that matters is that for all of us “guy” Whovian’s and girl fandoms it shouldn’t just be a woman, it NEEDS to be. They’re was way to much lost energy in the vortex from women for it to not be if you want to look at it whats happened since Clara….and some things that ALL of you have missed ;). BUT If I had to pick I would REALLY REALLLLLLY like to see Helena Bonham Carter be the Doctor. She crazy wild and I think she’s the only actress that could keep up with speed he speaks at lol, not to mention she reallllly looks like the woman who played the TARDIS in “The Doctors Wife” I’d like to win, but I’d like all of us to win and deliver us a Female Time Lord!
To me, if you don’t count Cushing, Jon Pertwee will always be the Doctor. He had an elegance to him that was lacking in all but a couple of the incarnations and his adventures always sucked me in. They just don’t write them like they used to.
As for the twelfth Doctor, I would be more than satisfied if Rory Kinnear got the part, but my number one pick would be Tom Brooke. I really don’t want any of the kids from Harry Potter stepping into the Tardis!

My favourite was Jon Pertwee, but then David Tennant came along and stole my heart. As for who I’d like to next see in the role, I admit I find the idea of Hugh Laurie appealing, but in the end I’m in the camp of preferring to have someone I’ve never seen before cast as the Doctor.
My favourite doctor is the first one I was exposed to, Tom Baker / The Fourth Doctor.
I’d like to see a non-white and/or non-male doctor. Paterson Joseph, who was rumoured to be in the running last time, would be awesome. Jenny Agutter or Hermione Norris, or if you need to go younger, Honeysuckle Weeks or Naomi Harris. But if you cast a female doctor, please let her wear pants. And have male companions who are not love interests.
I’ve only seen a couple of episodes, but have friends that are HUGE Who fans, and my husband has seen a few more than me. Sadly, we gave up cable so it’s hard for us to get access. Lol. I saw the melting snowman one and the don’t blink angel one. I’m not sure I get it, but my hubby’s a huge fan. He’d love the book.
A female or non- white doctor would be cool!
My favourite Doctor regenerations are Four, Five, Nine, Ten, and Eleven. 4 for his insane and brilliant personality as he’s crazy and hilarious. Five is just so interesting, especially with the decorative vegetable, celery. Nine is FANTASTIC! I wish he’d had more than one season. Ten is just so adorable, his quirky and positive abilities are so great. I think he’s one of the coolest. Especially the “barefoot on the moon” quote or the butterflies. Eleven is quite the clumsy,eccentric, fun. I am sad he’ll depart. He has quite the story and quite the excitement. I’ll miss the fashion sense, bowties-stetsons-fezzes-suspenders.
For the next Doctor, I’m not exactly sure what I think. A female doctor doesn’t sound like the best idea for the 12th. I’m a girl, and yeah, girls might do great in such a position, but not now. How disconnected would this one feel? Probably quite. Yes, it could make for a great challenge to overcome and showcase. I just feel like it might be a little too much for so soon. But a ginger would be pretty cool.
Tennant was my first reboot doctor, and of the classic Doctor’s I’ve seen I do like Tom Baker.
Eccelston was the first doctor I stuck with (I’ve seen a few original doctors, but always just here and there, never sat down and watched them). It took me a few seasons to really warm up toTennant, but I did. Matt Smith hasn’t quite replaced him, but he has grown on me a lot as he has matured in the role. I think at this point Tennant is my favorite, but can easily be swayed by dancing with CaptainJack and a good “Fantastic!”
I would have to say that Christopher Eccleston is my favorite. He was just so great in the role. You felt his pain and his joy.
For the next Doctor, I would love to see someone who can embody that knowledge of living a millennium. Tennent and Smith were great but there is something a young actor just can’t pull off, that gravitas of age. Remember the Tooth and Claw episode where the Queen put the Doctor in his place? I want to see more of that either in The Doctor or a companion. So I would go with Judy Dench, Ian McKellen, or Christopher Lee.

Tennant was my first Doctor, so by devotion he is my favorite. As for who should be next, that’s a bit of a pickle. I’d love to see The Doctor be a timelady this time around. Helen Mirren would be absolutely bold and would offer an entirely new look at the show. More realistically, Richard Ayoade would be a fun choice if he can pull off the more serious bits.
The first part is hard.. each doctor has their own strengths but I do have to say, Matt Smith has surprised me with the depth that he has been able to bring to the role… There are scenes where he moves with the age of a timelord, and other times, he is the 20 something with all the energy of youth.. as for the next doctor.. even though it won’t happen.. I would like to see Simon Pegg, just to mix it up abit…
So it looks like I did not win but I picked up the book anyway… and have finished it. Really fun book. Reynolds gets the tone of it just right — his sets actually seem low-budget even in print, somehow! It’s a fun story — a feisty Scottish heroine, oil rigs, time portals, eco-terrorism, an alien invasion, cliffhangers, bombastic dialogue with the Master, and plot twists that were foreshadowed a little too heavily — really, it reads like it was adapted from an old Doctor Who script. A quick read and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
