Back in February, Scholastic announced that Kazu Kibuishi would be illustrating new covers for the 15th anniversary of the Harry Potter series. I love Kibuishi’s work, from the Flight anthologies to the Amulet series, but of course it’s always tricky to fiddle with anything so beloved. (Just listen to Ken and Matt and their lively, uh, discussion about Star Trek: Into Darkness.)

I said before that I really do love the original (American) covers by Mary GrandPré, but I also really love the look of Kibuishi’s take on Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone, which was revealed in February. Today the second cover, for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, was revealed at Book Expo America. The whole set will be available as a box set in August—stay tuned for more covers as they’re revealed!

(And don’t worry; the original covers aren’t going away, either.)

  1. I know it’s like blasphemy but I like these better than the old American covers! I’ve been begging for a set of the UK version for my birthday this year but man are they expensive! Maybe this could be a compromise!
