In-Flight Interview on Air New Zealand’s Skycouch Seat

Engineering Geek Culture Technology

As you can see above, we got to test out Air New Zealand’s new Skycouch seat from London to New Zealand. Although we were a little apprehensive this turned what could have been a difficult trip with three children under ten, into something we actually looked forward to coming back on.

During the flight one of the attendants took some time out to exclusively talk us through how the new seat was working as well as offering news on how it was being licensed to other aircraft.

As you can see from the instructions below, although still the same dimensions as an economy seat the new design and technology allows families to make use of the foot-well area for sleeping. A foot rest rises up to complete a sofa-style area where children can relax and sleep more easily.

By upgrading to Skycouch you gain access to all three seats, which provide that much coveted lie-flat experience on these long haul flights. The cost of the upgrade differs depending on how many seats you have already and can be found on Air New Zealand’s website.

Here’s my full video review of the experience:

[Disclosure: Air New Zealand assisted with some of the ticket price for these seats]
