Fans of the mysterious Raven King and his alternate fantasy history of England will get a chance to see their favorite characters brought to life next year. Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrel, is being co-produced by BBC America as a new drama series to premiere in 2014.

Based on the bestselling novel by Susanna Clarke and adapted by Peter Harness (Wallander, Is Anybody There?), Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is set during the Napoleonic Wars in an England where magic once existed and is about to return.

If you have not read the book, it is one that I can highly recommend to any fantasy fans who like their magic dark and Georgian (pre-Victorian). The book is slow in parts, but always engaging. It will be interesting to see if the BBC can do as good a job with this material as HBO has done with A Game of Thrones.

  1. BBC has been knocking it out of the park lately (Sherlock, Downton Abbey, In the Flesh). I’ll bet they’ll do it right.

… Then America will remake it and it will be terrible.
