The Dude hamming it up as a supernatural lawman fighting monsters? I’m in.
Even if the trailer has a lot of Ryan Reynolds. The vibe of R.I.P.D seems very Men in Black, and Jeff Bridges particularly seems to have his tongue firmly planted in his cheek. The movie, scheduled for release in 3D on July 19, is based on a Dark Horse comic series by Peter M. Lenkov.
According to Universal Pictures, the movie focuses on Veteran sheriff Roy Pulsifer (Bridges) who hunts monstrous spirits who are cleverly disguised as ordinary people, all the while breaking in a new partner, Nick Walker (Reynolds) who is recently deceased.
If I was pitching this as a Hollywood high concept, I’d call it a supernatural Lethal Weapon. That could be a very good thing.
