Scaring Up the Courage to Go Back to College

I’ve been wanting to learn the ins and outs of scaring small children ever since I saw the documentary film Monsters, Inc. that Pixar produced 12 years ago — that was the same year I became a parent, so it was particularly meaningful for me. It’s time I revealed my hidden third eye to the world and let my naturally maroon-colored fur grow long. And why?

Monsters UniversityMonsters UniversityBecause I’m going to Monsters University, of course! I’ve been accepted to a special, intensive three-day course of study from April 8-10 on the school’s campus outside Monstropolis (which I understand is accessed by a special portal somewhere near San Francisco). Along with 24 other lucky monsters who, like me, have been in hiding among humans for many years, I’ll get the chance to finally learn what really goes into generating the screams so vital for our home dimension’s continued survival.

I’ll have a chance to see some of the upcoming documentary about the school — called, of course, Monsters University — that comes out on June 21, and to talk (at Pixar) with some of the people involved in making the film. I’ll also be able to see a new Pixar short called The Blue Umbrella, which I’m sure will be great because, well, when was the last time a Pixar short was anything else? And I’ll get to visit the Walt Disney Family Museum. I’ll be sure to report back to GeekDad’s readers on what I learn from the experience.

In the meantime, you can check out Monsters University’s excellent website that describes the school, its academics, and student life in great detail. I only wish I were going for longer: three days isn’t long enough for me to pledge at any of the fraternities, and I’ve heard really good things about Gamma Roar Roar (GRR).
