2013 Toy Fair: Cut The Rope Toys and Games

Geek Culture

Zeptolab, the people behind the hit mobile games, Cut The Rope, and Pudding Monsters are branching into the physical realm with a line of Cut The Rope themed toys. I met up with them at Toy Fair for a tour of the new lineup, and walked away with some mixed feelings.

The first thing I saw was the new line of plush characters, and a quick text of a photo to my daughter confirmed these would be a hit. The design and feel of the fabric is great and the character design matches the game perfectly. These are available in many sizes from 3″ to 8″ with some of the intermediate ones transforming (turned inside out) into a crate, star, or candy. The plush characters also come with a special tag that can be used with a simple Augmented Reality game, Candy Flick. My favorite is the 6″ plush Om Nom that turns into a star.

Next up, and one I’d be likely to add to the game cupboard was a Cut The Rope themed Connect 4. Unlike the traditional game though, the players take turns swinging their candy on a rope where it then drops into one of the columns. This adds a little bit of skill and luck to the game which could prove entertaining in itself.

The last line is a series of Om Nom’s Playgrounds. I can see these as a fun desk toy, but I’m not sure how well they will play with the kids. They feature different aspects of the game like the conveyor belt and spiked windmill. The object is to catapult the red candy into Om Nom’s mouth.
