Lego Mindstorms NXT is a sophisticated and fun educational robotics set that teaches kids and adults engineering and programming skills. As versatile as it is, however, wouldn’t it be cool to enhance those cool Lego robots with Arduino boards and shields? With that thought in mind, longtime GeekDad contributor John Baichtal and collaborators Adam Wolf and Matthew Beckler wrote Make: LEGO and Arduino Projects, and developed the open source Bricktronics shield to interface the two.

John has an in-depth piece on the Make blog detailing the cool possibilities of the union between the two, including how anyone, from open source hackers to high school students, can learn how to make cooler and more complex projects with the two technologies. Take a look, and be sure to check back here on GeekDad later this week for a full review of the book by Jim Kelly!
