It is 2013; do you know where your resolutions are? Chances are you made a few, and while most of us will never have abs like Bon Jovi, arms like LL Cool J, or legs like Faith Hill, there are some very important resolutions that we can all keep. And so can you!
I am, of course, talking about the resolution to become a more present parent (you made something similar, right?), and to make sure school plays, soccer games, and science fairs rank higher than those things that couldn’t possibly matter, like budget meetings, conference calls, and the occasional test launch. We all know that childhood is fleeting, yet we often let the trappings of our careers and other interests keep us from some of the sweetest moments our kids will ever know. It happens, and, if you like regular paychecks, it will likely continue to do so.
To be clear, I am not preaching. This is not an intervention. I don’t even own a soapbox. However, I am here to help, and if you want to call me a hero I am far too modest to stop you.
Meet Looxcie, and you will never have to miss a precious moment again. Looxcie allows people to record, share, and view video in real time across most devices and popular social media platforms. It works in a number of ways, and they are all easy (and often free!). Basically, you download their free app(s) and use the camera on your smartphone to capture video and stream it in real time to Facebook or the viewer’s desktop so that they don’t miss a minute (free apps required to view Looxcie on Facebook and desktop).
There are also two very small and easily wearable cameras, the bluetooth Looxcie 2 ($149.99) and the Looxcie HD Explore ($329.99) with 1080p recording and built-in Wi-Fi. Both offer handsfree live streaming to Facebook, iCloud, Twitter, YouTube, or email, and there are a number of optional mounting clips and brackets (sold separately) available for each.
Personally, I’m a fan of the smartphone app, because in addition to recording and streaming it also allows you to watch an event that is being streamed to you — this is perfect for parents that have two places to be at once. One person can record the recital, and the other can watch it while recording and streaming the spelling bee to the former. It’s all so circular.
The benefit of the Looxcie cameras, obviously, is the handsfree comfort that they allow. Even an iPhone gets heavy by the third act. Also, Looxcie cameras look cool, which is nice.
The recording and sharing possibilities are endless: parents can catch every event regardless of other responsibilities, and wide audiences of family and friends, spread as they are all across the internet, can watch moments in real time rather than hear about them later (note, kids not always included/needed). Looxcie’s slogan is “share life as you live it,” and that’s a resolution worth keeping.
