You’ve heard me extol the virtues of ioSafe’s disaster-proof external hard drives, and now ioSafe is doing a GeekDad giveaway! In addition to the external hard drive that I have reviewed, they also make portable ones, for your more mobile needs. GeekDad is giving away two of their 500GB portable hard drives this week. To win, just enter a comment below describing how ioSafe’s fire- and waterproof hard drives could help fill your data storage needs. Be sure to include an email address where we can reach you if you’re the winner. U.S. entrants only, please. Deadline for entry is Friday, January 11th at midnight MST (Mountain Standard Time). One entry per person. The two winners will be chosen at random.

Still just as rugged as the non-portable drives, the ioSafe Rugged Portable hard drive protects your data against floods, being able to be safely submerged in fresh or salt water up to 10 feet for 72 hours. It is protected against crushing by up to 5,000 pounds, depending on model. The drive is fully suspended on all six axes of motion. It is also safe against immersion in various chemicals, or from being exposed to other natural elements.

The ioSafe Rugged Portable hard drive also includes a one year warranty, and a year of data recovery service, where they will recover the data on the drive one time, no questions asked. For more information, check out ioSafe’s spec sheet.

In addition to more conventional external hard drives, ioSafe now makes an NAS (Network-Attached Storage). Store your data on your own personal cloud instead of relying on online services that may be slow, unreliable, or unsecured. I recently wrote about their Indiegogo campaign, but the NASes are available to order and ship now.

ioSafe has been providing disaster-proof hardware since 2005. I have had a wonderful experience with their products, though granted I haven’t had a disaster yet to test it. Still, others have put the drives through the ringer. Just check out some YouTube videos about putting the drives through water and fire tests.

So leave a comment below to enter to win one of two 500GB portable drives!
