Disney XD will kick off the second season of its Marvel Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon next month and unveil some nifty new extra content for fans of the show.

Premiering at 7 p.m. Jan. 21 with a one-hour episode, Ultimate Spider-Man brings a couple classic villains to the show in the Lizard – voiced by GeekDad favorite Dee Bradley Baker – and Electro. You can also expect crossovers from the Marvel’s Avengers Assemble cartoon, including the debut of Hawkeye.

During the season-opener, Disney XD will also introduce a new interstitial series, “Marvel Comics Close-Up,” aimed at encouraging reading habits and tying in with free digital Marvel comics available at DisneyXD.com. The series is actually going to be hosted by Joe Quesada himself – Marvel’s chief creative officer – and will present an inside look at 10 classic Marvel comics and the creators and artists behind them. The issues covered include: “Ultimate Spider-Man ″, “Invincible Iron Man ″, “Hulk ″, “Thor #364″, and “Marvel Adventures Spider-Man .”

The Disney XD web site also plans to launch an “Ultimate Spider Cycle” racing game.
