Like many people in Connecticut, I’ve been searching for way to help those left bereft by the horrible murders at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.
CNN listed a number of charities accepting donations last week and many of the obituaries of those killed also list charities accepting donations in remembrance of lost loved ones. But an article in this morning’s Hartford Courant also caught my eye.
Allison Anderson, 13, a student at Silas Deane Middle School in Wethersfield, Connecticut, is collecting superhero capes to outfit the children of Newtown.
In the article, Allison’s mother Camella Mollica, said that her daughter was inspired by her 6-year-old brother who said one of the girls at Sandy Hook was “like her own little superhero.” So far, according to the Courant, more than 1,000 capes have been collected and that plans are being made for a superhero day sometime after the Christmas break.
