Lego Cuusoo, for those who’ve not heard of it before, is a part of the Lego website where builders can upload photos of their creations. However, it’s not a place to just show off what you can build – if the model gains enough support from the community, and meets a strict set of guidelines, Lego will consider putting it into production as an official set. So far, only three sets have made it into the shops – the Shinkai Submarine (currently going for silly money on Amazon
Marty, Doc and the Delorean x 3
In the video above, Lego Cuusoo’s Tim Courtney delivers the results of the Summer Review and shows us a teaser of the latest set to pass the review stage – Doc Brown’s Delorean Time Machine from ‘Back To The Future‘! I remember seeing this one when it was first launched, backing it immediately, and being desperate to have it in my hands as soon as possible.
It’s such a well made model, with the perfect amount of detail for its scale, and comes with beautifully crafted minifigs of Doc Brown and Marty from all three films, as well a skateboard and a hoverboard! However, the best thing is that the designer, Masashi Togami, has actually included the parts to build all three versions of the Delorean too – the ‘regular’ one from the original movie, the flying version from part II and the horse-drawn/train-propelled one from the final film. There’s no word as to whether Lego’s version of the model will include all the parts need for all three Deloreans as yet, or indeed how much it will cost, but it should be in the shops by the middle of 2013.
If all that wasn’t enough to convince you about this set then there’s more. Lego pay 1% of the proceeds from Cuusoo sets to the designer, and Tagami has said from the outset that he would donate his royalties to the the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, because “Michael J. Fox is my hero, and I love their organization and support their cause!”. Congratulations Masashi!
