Something Fierce album cover

She’s a geek. She’s an incredibly talented singer-songwriter. She is one of the hardest working people with whom I have the pleasure of being acquainted. She’s Marian Call, and she wants you to join her on an adventure quest.

Last October, Marian Call released her double album Something Fierce. This album took many years to complete, and is a work filled with blood, sweat, tears, and many personal trials. Prior to its release, Marian joined me on the Geeky Pleasures Radio Show to discuss what this album means to her, just how important her fans were throughout the process, and more.

On November 13, 2012, Marian Call will be re-releasing her double album Something Fierce. She needs your help getting the attention of some larger media outlets; outlets such as NPR where her wonderful brand of geek folk music is a perfect fit. However, a number of the venues in which she is hoping to be featured require some sort of big release before they will pay her any real attention.

This is where you come in. You see, Marian told these media outlets that she has a really engaged fan base. Now, she needs to prove this.

On November 1, in conjunction with her European Adventure Quest tour, Marian launch an online adventure quest. Every day through November 13, she tasks readers with a new challenge. These tasks are extremely geeky. So far, they’ve included: leaving a comment on American Songwriter letting the digits in pi dictate the numbers of each letter in each word of the comment; leaving a comment on Phil Plait’s Bad Astronomy that must include, in order, the letters in the abbreviations for the elements of the periodic table; leaving comments on This is a Popscene using only words from titles of Marian Call songs; drawing pictures; and so much more. The complete list of tasks can be found on the Marian Call European Adventure Quest website.

You can complete these tasks on a daily basis. Or, if you are a procrastinator, you can do them all on the last day. The deadline for completing the tasks is November 13, 2012 at midnight Hawaii time.

There is more! Marian is also going to give away real prizes, both digital and physical. It doesn’t matter where you live on this great planet of ours. She will ship the prizes anywhere. To be eligible for the prizes, all you need to do is send an e-mail to Marian on November 13, with screencaps of the completed tasks, and you will be entered into the draw.

There is even more! On November 13, she will be hosting a G+ hangout party in Dublin, Ireland to celebrate the end of the adventure quest and the re-release of Something Fierce.

There are other ways you can help. You can join the blogosphere and write about this grand adventure. You can play Something Fierce, for free via Bandcamp, at your workplace. You can download Dear Mister Darcy and Good Morning Moon for the price of free, and share them with every one you know. Use the hashtag #somethingfierce when tweeting about Marian and her adventure quest. On her blog, Marian has listed many other ways you can help.

A bonus task that I am giving you is to watch Marian’s recent Salem, NH, concert below and share it with every one you know.

Are you brave and fierce enough, o ye fearless geeks? Are you up for a grand adventure? Can you help Marian slay the dragon that is getting recognition from larger media outlets? Will you accept the challenges and embark on this grand quest?
