[The video is embedded at the bottom of this post] Yes, that’s right, tonight James Floyd Kelly and I get to spend an hour talking with some of our favorite authors from the last year, including Hugh Howey, the author of the runaway hit Wool. Hugh Howey
After eight years working as a yacht captain delivering boats from Chicago to Barbados and everywhere in between, Hugh Howey was finally lured away from the sea by the girl of his dreams. Sequestered in the mountains of North Carolina, he directed his energies into a childhood fantasy of writing soaring adventure stories. His first series, The Molly Fyde Saga, won endorsements and awards from bestselling authors and bloggers. But it was his publication of Wool and the four stories that followed that gave him the freedom to quit his day job and write full-time.
Picked up in 20 countries, and with the film rights going to Ridley Scott, Wool has appeared on the New York Times bestseller list and has been as high as #1 on Amazon. Random House is publishing the work in the UK and Australia. Wool has also been picked up in the United States in a deal yet to be disclosed. He now lives in Jupiter, Florida with his wife Amber and their dog Bella.

Ernie Lindsey
Ernie Lindsey grew up in the Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia, herding cattle and chopping firewood, and has spent his life telling stories to anyone that will listen. He currently works as a freelance writer, and is the author of the novels Sara’s Game and Going Shogun. Ernie and his wife Sarah live in central Oregon, and their first child is due in December 2012, a few days before the Mayan Apocalypse. They intend for their baby to save the world.

Toni Dwiggens
I’m a third-generation Californian who migrated from southern Cal to northern Cal. What I like most about my state is that one can go from the ocean to the mountains in one day, with a lunch stop in the desert. I like it so much I’ve set my forensic geology books in those settings.
I’m author of a US History textbook, and have contributed to texts in the sciences. I’ve done tech-writing for the Silicon Valley computer industry, and that experience hatched an idea that became my first novel, about an attempt to sabotage the nation’s telephone system.
I went in a different direction with the Forensic Geology Series, taking mystery into outdoor adventure and thriller territory.

Will Hertling
I’m a web developer who likes to bounce back and forth between programming and strategy roles at HP. I’m particularly interested in web design, recommendation engines and social reputation. I have three kids: a 9 year old daughter and twin 7 year old boys. I live in Portland, Oregon.
My two released fiction books are Avogadro Corp: The Singularity is Closer than It Appears, and A.I. Apocalypse, both of which explore scenarios for the emergence of artificial intelligence. Both are self-published. My third novel, The Last Firewall, is a cyberpunk novel about a 19 year old girl who is all that stands between a corrupt AI and it’s quest for world domination. I also have a non-fiction book called Indie & Small Press Book Marketing that will be out sometime in the next 60 days.
