Good guys wear brown.

The ongoing celebration of the 10th anniversary of Joss Whedon’s Firefly continues with the premiere of a new documentary, Firefly: Browncoats Unite, which airs on Science Channel on Sunday November 11 at 10 PM. The hour-long special features Whedon and the entire cast providing an “oral history” of the series, behind-the-scenes anecdotes, and recounts the development of the show’s loyal fanbase in the ten years since it was canceled after only 14 episodes were filmed.

Science Channel, which began airing Firefly in 2011, will run another all-day marathon of the entire series on Sunday beginning at 7 AM as a precursor to the premiere of Firefly: Browncoats Unite. In addition to cast interviews and secrets from the set, the show also features scenes from the two hugely popular Firefly panels held earlier this year as Comic-Con International in San Diego and the New York Comic-Con. “When Science Channel began airing Firefly in 2011, we immediately realized that these fans are a subculture united by a unique and fanatical passion for the series,” says Debbie Adler Myers, general manager and executive vice president of Science Channel. “Our goal is to present them the series they love – but in a totally new and surprising way. Whether that’s through exploring the science behind the show or reuniting the entire cast for the first time, we want Science Channel to be the home for Browncoats everywhere.”

In addition to the TV special, Science Channel has another special surprise for Firefly fans; they have nearly two hours of extra footage that didn’t make it into the hour-long special, and they are putting it online as part of a Twitter campaign called “Flock to Unlock;” they are asking fans to tweet “@ScienceChannel with #FireflyNov11” and they will unlock another exclusive video segment for each 5,000 tweets posted.

Of course, if you just can’t wait, you can just watch Firefly clips now at the Science Channel website.
