MythBusters Returns Tomorrow, With James Cameron

Television

There are very few television shows which create passion in my home like MythBusters. At one point in time, it took serious diplomatic negotiations to determine which of my three daughters got to play Kari Byron and who would be forced to play Tory Belleci. “Ok, I’ll play Tory, but I only have to jump my bike over the wagon once.” I truly credit that show with my six-year-old’s determination to be a scientist when she grows up. (Sir David Attenborough had a hand in that as well.) The years of pretending may be gone, but MythBusters is still a weekly family ritual.

For fans like us, it has been a long drought since the last season finished up in June. Finally, tomorrow (Sunday, October 7) at 8pm ET/PT that drought will end, and MythBusters will kick off its new season with an appearance by director James Cameron. Cameron asks Adam and Jamie to resolve a longstanding argument among both fans and detractors of his film Titanic: whether or not Jack and Rose could have both fit on that door. It is a brilliant myth to start the season: controversial, easily testable, and, in the end, pretty definitively resolved. The myth finishes with a brilliant zinger from Cameron too.

Meanwhile over at M7, Kari, Tory, and Grant use Tory as a human guinea pig to test whether or not it is possible to surf a flat lake with rockets. Need I say more?

Both myths set sail tomorrow (Sunday) at 8pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel.
