Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes is the latest addition to the Lego DC Universe. I loved the first Lego Batman game so I was super excited to see that Lego was once again on good terms with the Bat and his friends.
One of the charms of the previous Lego games was the way the characters communicated with grunts and groans, verses words. The subtitles on the screen and their body language were enough to keep you informed on the story and added a little extra humor to game. Unlike in the previous game, this time the characters communicate with actual words instead of sounds and body language. This is a pretty big change for Lego and even though it’s a little weird, it’s not a bad change.
The story revolves around the usual Batman villains but with a surprise twist; Lex Luthor teams up with the Joker in an effort to create a mind controlling gas and brain wash the citizens into voting him for President of the United States. Since you can’t have Lex with out Superman, the man of steel eventually shows up to help out the capped crusader.
One of the things I love about this game is the wide range of characters you can play as.
Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, the Flash and Cyborg join the party after Lex Luthor builds a robot to destroy not only the man of steel, but also Metropolis and Gotham City.
They changed a little bit of the characters to fit the game and to make it a little harder to play. For instance, when Superman gets hit with kryptonite, he is unable to fly and it reduces his power levels. He is also no longer invulnerable to things like electricity. Lego worked around this by giving Batman and Robin special suits to handle the things the other characters can’t.
For me, the only downside to the game was the split screen in two player mode. When you and your partner are in the same area, the screen looks normal. The moment one of you runs off screen though, the weirdest split I’ve ever seen happens. It comes and goes based on where your character is and it rotates with your character. After about 15 minutes, I started to get a little motion sickness and I had to stop.
Overall, I enjoy this game just as much as I enjoyed the first one. I like the split screen a lot better on Lego Batman and I enjoy the the variety of characters I get to play in Lego Batman 2. Of course, I’m also enjoying the great toys that Lego is releasing to go along with the game. I still have a ways to to go before I beat the game and I’m looking forward to seeing how this one ends.
