Want to teach your kids basic computer science concepts without a computer?
Computer Science Unplugged is a website and resource that helps you teach your kids about binary numbers, sorting algorithms, finite state automata, programming languages, and many more concepts. It has been translated into a number of languages, and is freely available on their website. They also sell the teacher’s edition, and maintain a Google Group to discuss the material.

I’ve used some of these activities with my own kids very successfully, including the binary numbers lessons. Some of the activities work better with classes or groups larger than my sample size of two, but if you want to remove the sometimes-intimidating element of learning computer science through coding on a computer, check out Computer Science Unplugged. It’s valuable and effective.
