Hurrah! Portland, Oregon, is finally getting its own (mini) Maker Faire this weekend!

The two-day event (September 15-16) will be held at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), and there’s even a biodiesel-powered Maker Shuttle which will run from downtown to OMSI, as well as two other ongoing events: the brand-new XOXO Festival and TBA (Time-Based Art). If you’ve been a regular GeekDad reader then you may already be familiar with Maker Faires, but in case you aren’t, OMSI has provided this helpful summary. Essentially, though, it’s an event for “makers” — that is, people who make stuff, hack stuff, fix stuff, and create stuff.

Several of the weekend’s events are by Portland-based makers, but I also spotted Jay Silver, creator of the MaKey MaKey, in the lineup, and Dale Dougherty, editor-in-chief of MAKE Magazine and founder of Maker Faire, will be speaking as well. I’ll try to swing by for some GeekDad representation this weekend, but mostly just to enjoy the cool things that people build, break, and make.

Tickets are available through OMSI.
