Nerdist Co-Hosts Join Wil Wheaton to Say Anything in This Week’s TableTop

Geek Culture

In this week’s episode of Geek & Sundry’s TableTop, host Wil Wheaton and his friends for the first time play what is generally considered a party game: Say Anything. Wil is joined by screenwriter Josh A. Cagan and Nerdist Podcast co-hosts Matt Mira and Jonah Ray; John Cusack and Ione Skye are nowhere to be found.

Say Anything is a game in which players answer subjective questions, like “Who’s the most annoying celebrity in show business?” secretly, and each round the player acting as judge determines which answer he/she likes best. Then the other players bet on which answer the judge liked best. Obviously, it helps to know the people you’re playing with. In TableTop‘s game, not only do the players know each other pretty well, but they’ve all had training to be stand-up comedians, so as you can imagine the entertainment value is high. They also play by some house rules, which may ruffle a few feathers, but hopefully most viewers will realize that everyone plays by house rules sometimes. Parents who weren’t too keen on their kids watching the last two episodes of the show due to the Fiasco scenario’s very adult plot will be glad to know this episode is much more kid-friendly — though you might want to fast-forward through the answers to “What’s the worst thing to say on a job interview?” and there are a few bleeped-out bits that are more than a bit obvious. And a brief reference to “sex robots.”

Behind the scenes info: We are informed that Say Anything was not the first choice for this week’s episode. Evidently they switched at nearly the last minute when Wil “realized that ‘You’re making my guests do division on camera?'” We haven’t been told what game it was they were originally intending to play, but we’re willing to bet Say Anything is more fun to watch.

Oh, and in case you were wondering: Yes, TableTop has officially moved to alternate Thursdays at 10am PT.
