Sylvester McCoy as The Doctor

Scottish Actor Sylvester McCoy (real name Percy James Patrick Kent-Smith), best known to geeks as the 7th incarnation of The Doctor on the British television series, was born this day 69 years ago. He is credited as having played The Doctor for the longest amount of time, since he was active on the original series from 1987 to 1989 (when the show ceased), and then showed up in the 1996 television movie, only to regenerate into Paul McGann, who would then be credited as playing The Doctor for the shortest amount of time.

More recently, there has been much excitement over news that McCoy will be playing the wizard Radagast the Brown in the upcoming “The Hobbit” films. The role is rumored to be quite significantly expanded from the appendix references and brief appearance in “The Lord of the Rings.” Indeed, there have already been images leaked of Radagast’s home, Rhogobel.

Happy Birthday Sylvester!
