There aren’t many things that can improve just sitting down with good friends and playing a game, or just relaxing — unless it’s doing the same thing with something good to drink at hand. It could be something enhanced with some good old fashioned ethanol, or not, depending on your preference.

We’d like to suggest, at least, that if you choose to prepare a drink for yourself for Father’s / National GeekDad Day — or, better, to have someone else prepare it for you — you make it a geeky drink. Herewith are some suggestions from myself and several of my fellow GeekDad writers for ways to “geek up” your drinks tomorrow. My thanks to Ethan Gilsdorf, Jason Cranford Teague, Raymond Masters, and Curtis Silver for their assistance in preparing this list.

Non-Alcoholic Drinks

1. Tea, Earl Grey, hot.

2. Bacon soda.

3. Butterbeer.

4. Romulan Ale energy drink.

Alcoholic Drinks

1. Bilbo’s Revenge (aka Dragon’s Breath)

Perfect to ward off the dark skies of Mordor, or to give you courage when about to steal treasure from dragons.

1 ¼ part 12-year-old whisky
¾ part blackberry brandy
4 parts hot tea

Directions: Add all ingredients to a coffee mug. Serve with a cinnamon stick and sliced lemon.

2. Luke’s Bantha Milk

Something like what Luke grew up drinking on Tatooine – but with a kick. But after you’ve had a few, it’s not a good idea to drive over to Tosche Station to pick up some power converters.

1 1/2 oz vodka
3/4 oz Kahlua
3/4 oz cream
dash of blue food color (to give it the appropriate blue milky color)
Serve in a tall, translucent plastic tumbler over ice (or not).

3. Moscow Mule

4. Sonic Screwdriver

5. Romulan Ale.

6. Alcoholic Butterbeer

1 part Schnapps, butterscotch
1 dash Schnapps, vanilla
7 parts cream soda

7. Dogfish Head Urkontinent beer – made with ingredients from every continent but Antarctica.

8. Any beer you brewed yourself.
