Soldering is Easy!

I was always intimidated by soldering because I don’t have the best manual dexterity in the world — let’s just say being a neurosurgeon was never really an option for me. With some practice though, I have found it to be rather easy. If I can solder, you and your geeklings can solder too. Now you can get some great pointers to help you along in comic book style with Soldering Is Easy!

Soldering Is Easy is a great introduction to the basics of soldering through-hole components and wires. Brought to you by Mitch Altman (@maltman23), Andie Nordgren, and Jeff Keyzer, Soldering Is Easy is available for free and in a couple of different formats to make it easy to get on the eReader of your choice or to print out. It has also been translated into 15 additional languages so you can check it out as PDF in 简体中文版, Ελληνικά, Русский, and several other languages. It is distributed under Creative Commons (Attribution-ShareAlike), so sharing is encouraged!

Contained in the eight pages are a great deal of wisdom. The first couple pages cover the basics of soldering, such as what constitutes solder, the soldering iron, and basic safety. The guide then goes on to cover the basics of a circuit, the circuit board, the components you will be soldering. Finally, you get the iron fired up, solder some components, make some mistakes, and learn that making the mistakes is not so bad.

I wish I had something like Soldering Is Easy when I was first learning to solder. Check it out and I hope it gives you and your geeklings a great start towards building your own electronics!
