Platypus Day Is Here — Have You Learned the Walk Yet? (GeekDad Weekly Rewind)

Platypus Day posterPlatypus Day posterSo, what are your plans to celebrate Platypus Day? It’s happening today, so I hope you’ve been practicing your Platypus Walk.

What am I talking about? Well, last year Disney inaugurated Platypus Day, and would seem to have decided it should occur every year on the first Saturday in March. So today, March 3, will continue the newly-established tradition by having a day-long marathon of Phineas and Ferb episodes on both Disney Channel and Disney XD, this year culminating in the premiere of a new episode. Oh, and they’re encouraging everyone to do the Platypus Walk.

Oh, you’re not familiar with the Platypus Walk? Well, you see, it’s a dance in which you move like Perry the Platypus — sort of, anyway. It’s pretty simple and fun, and Disney has thoughtfully provided instruction on how to do it, in the form of a video:

There’s also a video of various Disney Channel stars doing the dance:

Disney has also thoughtfully provided an iron-on graphic of the Platypus Day logo (PDF) that you can download and use to make your own shirt (assuming you have an iron-on sheet to print it on). There’s also a free mp3 of the dance music, and a bunch of other fun stuff, available on the official Platypus Day website.

The complete schedule of Phineas and Ferb episodes to be shown today on both channels can be found on the Phineas and Ferb Wiki — of course, it’s possible the schedule could change, and it’s on a wiki so there’s always the possibility it’s not 100% accurate. The new episode will air at 7:45pm Eastern/Pacific, and is called “Perry the Actorpus.”
