Criteria for the Marbles Game Design Contest

Think you’ve got a good idea for a game? Here are two chances to win some cash.

First up is Marbles: The Brain Store, which specializes in “brain-friendly” toys, puzzles, and games. They’re looking for something that is:

  • brain beneficial
  • takes seconds to learn, years to master
  • enjoyable for all ages
  • fun
  • heirloom quality
  • unique

It can be something totally new, or your take on an existing game (though in my opinion that’s no longer “unique”). The guidelines remind me a little of Daniel Solis’s Thousand-Year Game Challenge. The prize: $2,000 cash, plus your game produced and sold by Marbles. The deadline is coming up soon, so you gotta be quick! Check out the contest page for more info.

Pong Indie Developer ChallengePong Indie Developer Challenge In case you’re more the videogame sort, there’s another contest with a pretty big prize: for the 40th anniversary of Atari and Pong, Atari has announced their Pong Indie Developer Challenge. Reimagine Pong for iOS, and your entry could end up in the App Store with the Atari brand. You’ll get a publishing agreement with Atari, plus up to $100,000. Not bad for bouncing a ball back and forth on a screen, eh?

For all the details, visit the official contest site here. Deadline is the end of March.

Ready, set, go!
