Those of you with a dark sense of humor have probably seen this little chunky cartoon book: All My Friends Are Dead. I first came across it at Comic-Con in 2010, and it’s pretty funny if you like that sort of thing.
Apparently a lot of people like that sort of thing. AMFAD sold over 100,000 copies, and now Avery Monsen and Jory John have a sequel: All My Friends Are Still Dead. Just out this week, the book continues the necro-centric ruminations of various people, animals, and inanimate objects.
Despite my own warnings that the first book wasn’t entirely for kids, my own kids have read the original and think it’s pretty funny, though I know at least some of the jokes go over their heads. This one is probably a little more adult-themed (though, again, they won’t get some of it). There’s the peeping Tom angel, the guy who works in a morgue, and a janitor with an, um, interesting relationship with a trash can.
If you’ve got friends with quirky tastes, this little volume will make a fun gag gift (but be sure to get them the original, too). Of course, if all your friends are dead, then maybe you could just buy one for yourself.
