Read John Carter for Free Before the Movie

Geek Culture

When I heard Andrew Stanton from Pixar had decided to bring Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter novels to the screen, I took note. Stanton is either the writer, director, or both behind many of the best Pixar animated features, including Finding Nemo, A Bug’s Life, all three movies in the Toy Story franchise, and my personal favorite, Wall-E. This march Stanton will make his live action directorial debut with a script he wrote based on Burroughs’ work. Burroughs is most famous as the creator of the character Tarzan.

I have to confess, I have never read any of Burroughs’ novels, but since Stanton was bringing John Carter to the big screen, I decided I would try to read at least one of the ten John Carter novels before the movie arrived on March 9th. To my delight, I found a variety of electronic formats of the first novel, A Princess of Mars, available for free all over the internet: Amazon Kindle Free Edition, Google Reader, and Audio Book. Now you can read the first John Carter novel before you see the movie.

If you get a chance to either listen to or read A Princess of Mars before March, come back the week after the movie opens for a discussion of the book.
