Tune in tonight to the Disney Channel at 7:00pm ET/PT for the Phineas and Ferb Christmas specials both old and new. The first 45 minutes of the 7:00 hour will see the first Christmas special, Phineas and Ferb: Christmas Vacation repeated in its entirety. The remaining 15 minutes will see the new Christmas special, with special guest star Kelly Clarkson!

The new Christmas episode is intended as a complementary piece to the first Phineas and Ferb Christmas special that premiered two years ago. That one had original songs and a Christmas-oriented plot that was otherwise similar to the show’s usual plots. This one, as Jeff “Swampy” Marsh (co-creator of the show) told me, is very different:

This is like the old-time traditional Christmas specials that you used to see from Andy Williams, Bob Hope, or Bing Crosby. My grandfather [Les Brown] was musical director for most of those guys, so he used to play the band for all those shows. I grew up watching them from the set when they were filming them. So it was really nostalgic for me.

You can hear the music from the new episode (with some slight differences, I’m sure) on the Phineas And Ferb Holiday Favorites album that came out last year. (The version of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” on the album is my favorite, but alas was too long to be put in the episode.)

Check back on GeekDad next week for some more cool information I gleaned from a conversation I had with Marsh and his co-creator Dan Povenmire. In the meantime, enjoy this clip from the new special!
