Lonely Planet Guide to New York City
Just in time for my trip to New York City next month, one of my favorite guide book series is giving it away. Lonely Planet has made its guide to the Big Apple free in the iTunes store. But you better grab your copy of The Lonely Guide to New York City: the deal only lasts through December 15th.
On January 18th, I’ll be giving a half day course on CSS3 for Web professionals at the WebVisions conference at the Hudson Hotel in New York City. Silly me, I decided to take the whole family along. We plan on taking the bus from DC, but, then what to do with four days in Gotham?
Lonely Planet guides got me through some tough times when I was wondering around Europe in my college days. I could rely on its books to show me the coolest parts of every city and how to avoid the tourist traps.
Flash forward to 2011, and Lonely Planet has gone electric with a killer interface and tons of information at your fingertips. This includes detailed maps of the city with up-to-date restaurant guides, festivals and events, bar hopping, excursion trips, and helpful tips for seeing museums and parks. The one thing noticeably missing, though, is a specific section for things to do with your kids. Here’s hoping the next edition fixes that problem.
If you are traveling to New York City this holiday season — and you have an iPhone — you should definitely have this guide in your pocket. It’s kind of like the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, localized to New York.
