Kinectimals, Now With Bears (and Windows Phone 7)

Family Gamer TV Geek Culture

This week Family Gamer TV talks to Tobi about Kinectimals, their family’s alternative to a real pet. We also look at the new Kinectimals with Bears, the Windows Phone 7 version and the physical cuddly Kinectimals cats.

Tobi said the same as Vanessa, that their young daughters found Kinectimals to be a Kinect game they could play without any assistance from a grown up. They were able to navigate the menus (often the trickiest part of Kinect games for young players) as well as enjoy playing the game itself.

Then the Windows Phone 7 version of Kinectimals (Marketplace) was also surprisingly successful. As more of a core gamer I was quite excited to be able to earn Xbox Live Achievement points on my phone, as well as check out what my friends are doing. Tobi was more excited about being able to “Tickle his Tiger” as he put it. I had to agree that the touch screen does add a really nice tactile element.

Something I’ve been surprised to discover since we filmed this episode is the release of the XBox Live app for the iPhone. This lets you log into Xbox Live on the Apple device, change your appearance and see what your friends are doing. I really didn’t expect this — with the usually high walls between first party titles and competitor devices.
