FGTV Battles the Christmas Bulge With Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012

Family Gamer TV Geek Culture Hacking the Holidays

With the holidays coming, the risk of over indulgence is greater than ever. In an effort to get the jump on my impending bulge I decided to commit to a fitness program. More specifically a fitness game.

I have enjoyed dipping in and out of titles like Wii-Fit, The Biggest Loser and EA Sports Active, but if I’m honest I’ve never really committed to any of them. One of the issues is that I usually end up cheating by simply waggling my wrist rather than actually doing the fitness exercise properly.

I know that this is kind of crazy, and it’s only me that loses out. As well as this there is an underlying uncertainty about whether I’m actually doing the exercises properly or not.

After giving Your Shape Fitness Evolved a try on Kinect when it launched I realized that this might be the answer for me. Not only does it keep a better track of all your limbs than the Wii, and make it harder to cheat, but it also gives you feedback about whether you are in the right position.

So I bit the bullet, and roped in one of our Family Gamer TV moms as well, and committed to giving Your Shape Fitness Evolved a proper go. As chance would have it there is also a new version for us to try out: Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 — although not the most imaginative name in the world, it actually seems quite a bit better than the first release. Time will tell.

Here are our first two videos. Fingers crossed, there will be more soon.
