Cold Winds Are Rising in New Game of Thrones Teaser

Geek Culture

Just before Boardwalk Empire last night, HBO viewers were treated to a new teaser trailer for season two of Game of Thrones. The second part of the epic tale, which begins airing in April, promises to continue its excellent adaptation of the George R.R. Martin series A Song of Ice and Fire. The plot will follow the series’ second book A Clash of Kings, and portray the action and drama as the many contenders posture and make power grabs for the iron throne.

Like any teaser trailer, this one is just enough to whet our appetites and leave us begging for more. The narrative is spoken by Stannis Baratheon, brother of the recently deceased King Robert, and points to the unrest in the seven kingdoms. We also get one of the first looks at a couple of new characters. There’s not much new beyond that, save the foreshadowing of three horn blasts at the end. (Note: If you still haven’t read the books, you may want to avoid the YouTube comments.) The trailer is great and, while winter may be coming, spring can’t arrive soon enough so we can begin watching season two!

In other Game of Thrones news, Dynamite Entertainment is doing a pretty decent comic adaptation of the first book. The series is only on issue four now and is able to do some bigger things, in terms of imagery, so it’s worth taking a look at if you’re a Game of Thrones fan.

Also of note is an upcoming Dark Horse product line, arriving in March. Available via specialty retailers will be a vast line of Game of Thrones merchandise, including statues, busts, and action figures. The comic publisher has licensed with the HBO series and will also offer jewelry replicas, barware, stationery and other collectibles like patches, coasters, magnets, and more.
