We’ve got a special treat for all the fans of Phineas and Ferb out there. I hope that includes most of our readers, because all sensible geeks — and particularly those with children — need to watch it. It’s far and away the smartest and funniest family-friendly cartoon show on TV right now.
There are two big events coming up for the titular stepbrothers, Perry the Platypus, and their various friends, family members, and nemeses: First, the last-ever episode (unless they decide to resurrect it in the future) of Take Two with Phineas and Ferb, with guest Guy Fieri of Food Network fame, is set to premiere on the Disney Channel this Friday. And second, the new special Christmas episode of the show is set to air December 2, with guest star Kelly Clarkson! The awesome folks at Disney have given GeekDad the exclusive first look at the entire Take Two episode and at a short clip from the new Christmas episode, both of which can be viewed below.
The Christmas episode is intended as a complementary piece to the first Phineas and Ferb Christmas special that premiered two years ago. That one had original songs and a Christmas-oriented plot that was otherwise similar to the show’s usual plots. This one, as Jeff “Swampy” Marsh (co-creator of the show) told me, is very different:
This is like the old-time traditional Christmas specials that you used to see from Andy Williams, Bob Hope, or Bing Crosby. My grandfather [Les Brown] was musical director for most of those guys, so he used to play the band for all those shows. I grew up watching them from the set when they were filming them. So it was really nostalgic for me.
Where the first special was 45 minutes long, the new one is 15 (the usual length of a story on the show), which enables them to fit together nicely as an hour-long program. You can hear the music from the episode (with some slight differences, I’m sure) on the Phineas And Ferb Holiday Favorites
