Today’s Google Doodle celebrates Mark Twain’s birthday with a fun illustration: Tom Sawyer convincing another kid to whitewash the fence for him. Although it’s not shown in the picture, Tom even convinced the kids to pay him for the privilege of doing his chore. Say, tell you what: for a small fee, I’ll let you come over and rake my leaves. No? Apparently I’m not as good a salesman as Tom.
Twain was born (as Samuel Langhorne Clemens) on November 30, 1835, during a flyby of Halley’s Comet, and died 75 years later, right after the comet’s next pass. Happy Birthday, Mark Twain!
